NEWS ALERT: Shelby County Community Services to screen for utility assistance

Shelby County Community Services Agency is screening for utility assistance through June 8, 2017. These screenings are for utility assistance only and are not related to storm damage customers may have received following the May 27 straight line winds that moved through Shelby County.

Customers needing more information are to call CSA at 901-222-4315.

Customers must bring the following: -Social Security cards for each household members -Valid government-issued ID -Proof of all household income for the last three months for all members 18 and older -Copy of most recent utility bill or receipt from fuel source

The screening will take place at MLGW’s Downtown Community Office, 245 S. Main St.

CSA will screen for two programs: Energy Assistance and Energy Crisis. Applicants must meet the 150 percent Federal Poverty Guidelines and have an active utility account. Also, applicants cannot have received from CSA since July, 1, 2016 and can receive up to $600.

The Shelby County Community Services Agency will screen for utility assistance the following days and times:

Wednesday: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Thursday: 3 – 7 p.m.

MLGW is the largest three-service public power utility in the nation, serving more than 421,000

customers in Memphis and Shelby County.

APPLY FOR SHELBY COUNTY CSA UTILITY ASSISTANCE

MLGW Downtown Community Office (245 S. Main Street)

Wednesday – June 7, 9a.m.— 2p.m. Thursday – June 8, 3—7p.m.

LIHEAP Eligibility:

•Provides utility assistance to individuals and families who qualify according to the 150% Federal Poverty Income Guidelines.

•Client must have a delinquent bill or cutoff notice.

• Must not have received utility assistance funds since July 1, 2016.

•Customer must pay the difference between the amount due and the award amount to receive utility assistance.

•No diversion charges will be paid. •Must meet one of the following criteria:

•60 years of age or older.

• Disabled.

•Child in home under the age of 6.

•Household member experienced a documented uncontrollable circumstance.

Customers must bring the following documentation:

•Social Security cards for each household member •Valid government-issued ID •Proof of all household income for the last three months for all members 18 and older •Copy of most recent utility bill or receipt from fuel source
