Exit Plan: Board awards bid for construction of intersection improvements

By Bill Short

The Millington Board of Mayor and Aldermen has awarded a bid for construction of improvements to the intersection of Raleigh-Millington Road and state Route 385.
Board members took the action during their July 13 regular monthly meeting by six affirmative votes, with Alderman Al Bell absent.
On July 7, Enscor LLC submitted a bid of $630,677.49.
Fisher & Arnold, the city’s design consultant for the project, reviewed the bid as well as the contractor’s qualifications and recommended that the board accept it.
A resolution to award the bid states that $559,677.49 of the cost will be funded by an 80-20 matching grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
City Finance Director John Trusty said the remaining $71,000 will be paid from the Millington Sewer Fund for related location of sewer mains.
The resolution states that, upon approval by City Attorney Gerald Lawson, Mayor Terry Jones will be authorized to sign a contract and any related documents with Enscor.
But it notes that the bid award is subject to TDOT’s concurrence prior to execution of the contract.
